Company : MCSA SIPEM
Industry : Aerospace - Defense
Business : Design, industrialization, production and testing of parts used in complex on-board assemblies.
MCSA acquired SIPEM, a family business, in 2000. We are one of the group’s four entities. MCSA SIPEM, located at Méreau (Cher department), specializes in the development, machining, assembly and testing of small and medium-sized parts and complex hydraulic, electromechanical and mechanical assemblies. We generate 90% of our revenue from the aerospace sector.
OUR DAILY CHALLENGES
SIPEM entity, like the rest of the group, constantly strives for excellence, in terms of quality and deadlines. Our long-term vision is an important part of the group’s values, and has been instrumental in our decision to set up an interconnected digital process, from CAD/CAM (CATIA V5), to 3-, 5- and 8-axis NC machines, through machining simulation with NCSIMUL MACHINE, and automatic G-code conversion for new target machines, with NCSIMUL 4CAM. We produce parts and assemblies, often finely wrought and complex, in a range of metals, including steels, aluminum, titanium, inconel, and magnesium, and plastics co-engineered with major corporate customers, notably in the new aerospace development programs.
WHY CHOOSE NCSIMUL SOLUTIONS ?
- It all began in 2007 when NCSIMUL superseded VERICUT for tool path simulation. “The CAD/CAM tools we were using had no advanced technological solution that successfully addressed the risks of collisions and, inevitable breakage”, explains François Pytel. NCSIMUL is ergonomic and efficient, enabling us to view, simulate and check the 3D model at any time during the machining simulation.
- January 2017 has brought NCSIMUL 4CAM, the final part of our information system. This SPRING module gives MCSA SIPEM the needed flexibility to renovate its machine workshop and optimize the way it uses all its NC machines, eliminating the constraints linked to various kinematics. Finally, it allows the company to recover all its NC programs background, even old versions which no longer have the CAM sources but only G-code.
BEFORE & AFTER NCSIMUL 4CAM
Our resources were ageing and it was time to invest in new NC machines. As we are using multiple programs on each machine, NCSIMUL 4CAM has enabled us to transfer programs from our old machines to the new ones faster.
Before: the company started from scratch and reiterated the CAM process and simulation from the beginning; which was hugely time-consuming.
With NCSIMUL 4CAM we can modify our machining program, change machine parts such as the tool holder or fixtures, switch from one machine to another, regardless of the kinematics, and enhance the G-code according to the new selected machine.
The outcome: we have slashed the time we take to reprogram machining tool paths for complex parts from 3 weeks to 3 days.
THE PARTNERSHIP WITH SPRING TECHNOLOGIES
“The NCSIMUL team, whether it is sales, technical support, customer service or R&D know our job: getting manufactured products to market. They have a clear vision of the issues inherent to the shop floor. Every time we talk to them and work together, we take away positives. Support is not just a nice idea, it’s the reality in the field”, adds François Pytel.
For MCSA SIPEM the future is all about solutions that will be increasingly easy to use. More safeguards and flexibility will ensure that jobs are always done right first time, the key to higher productivity.
LE PISTON FRANCAIS
«With SPRING’s latest solution, we have cut lead times for reprogramming an NC machine from one week to a few hours, even when different kinematics are used. We know how to generate a program in practically one click, whether the initially plannedNC is the one that will actually be used. It is almost magic!»
